Nevada State Library Adventure Backpacks Program
Explore Nevada’s great outdoors as a family with the Adventure Backpacks Program, an initiative that brings educational, hands-on learning experiences to children and families.
Discover Nevada’s great outdoors with Adventure Backpacks—free to check out at participating libraries!
Launched in 2025 with 17 of Nevada’s 20 library districts participating, the Adventure Backpacks Program connects youth and families with the outdoors while sparking curiosity, encouraging hands-on learning, and promoting reading and early literacy.
Each backpack is themed—Desert Plants, It Moves, Night Views, or Treasure Hunt—and designed to help families learn about Nevada’s plants, wildlife, night skies, rocks, and other natural resources. Backpacks include a combination of books, activity guides, educational materials, and exploration tools like binoculars or telescopes. Families can also find trail guides, the Nevada State Parks Passport, and other resources to help turn a trip outdoors into a learning adventure.
Find a participating library near you and check out an Adventure Backpack to explore, learn, and spend time together outdoors.
